Saturn Corporation is a subsidiary of GM. Saturn was founded at the start of 1985 with the notion that forming a 'different kind of car company' would help compete against the rising Japanese import market. Saturn tried hard to market itself as grass roots, good old family company next door with friendly service and no haggle pricing. Another major selling point was the polymer dent and corrosion resistent body panels. These plastic panels were a great feature but did end up costing the company a lot in the long run. In 2009 Saturn officially discontinued them on all new productions.

With hard times hitting GM in 2008 they expressed their plan to only focus on four Brands which did not include Saturn. In the middle of 2009 GM expected a sale of Saturn Corporation to Penske Automotive Group but a couple months later Penske ended the discussions. The Saturn Corporation is set to cease existence by the end of 2010.
