Oldsmobile was founded as the Olds Motor Work in 1897 by Ransom E. Olds. Olds took the record as the first producer of high volume gas powered vehicles when in 1901 they produced 425 cars. After a few years of success the founder left the company and a few years after that General Motors purchased the company in 1908.

Of the many great models produced some of Oldsmobile's most notable vehicles were the Cutlass, 442, Eighty Eight (88), Ninety Eight (98), Custom Cruiser and Toronado.

Unfortunately the Oldsmobile line is defunct as of 2004. When the doors were shut on Oldsmobile it was the oldest active American auto company and was one of the oldest auto brands in the world behind Daimler and Peugeot.
